What a great senior day we saw Saturday at Kyle Field. The competition wasn’t great, but the Aggies dominated all game, got some much needed reps for backups, and we saw some seniors make great plays. When playing an inferior opponent, you always want to see the superior team get out to a fast start and put the game away early. Don’t let the opponent get any sort of hope, and that is exactly what we saw Saturday as this game was 21-0 after the first quarter and 38-0 at half.

Another young player showed out as well in Moose Muhammad. He was getting looks early in the game as well due to so many injuries at wide receiver (Hez Jones, Chase Lane, Demond Demas are all out for the rest of the season), and Moose looked great. He hauled in 5 catches for 77 yards and two touchdowns. One of his touchdowns was the play of the game. Calzada was under pressure and threw off his back foot, but thanks to his arm strength he was able to loft a ball to the back corner of the end zone and Moose brought it in with a defender right on his back. A picture perfect throw and a great catch in traffic by the young wide out. I’m excited to see him get more snaps at LSU and in the bowl game because he’s looked like a real playmaker the few games he’s seen significant snaps.

The defense came to play again as expected. I firmly believe this is the second best defense in the country behind Georgia. The Prairie View passing stats look like something you would see in a 10 year old pop warner game. They played three QBs in the game and those three went 2/12 for 7 yards. I repeat they went 2/12 for 7 yards as a team! I don't care if it’s an FCS opponent or not, that is dominant. Prairie View was able to run the ball with some effectiveness, totaling 147 yards rushing on 3.5 yards per carry. But most of that yardage was gained when the game was out of hand. Plus, 3.5 yards per carry is quite good, and the only reason Prairie View found some creases is because they kept pounding the ball since they legitimately could not throw the ball.

Antonio Johnson’s sack fumble was a thing of beauty. From his timing on the blitz to the textbook hit without getting a targeting, it was magnificent. Also super cool to see Aaron Hansford scoop up the fumble and run it into the end zone for a TD in his final game at Kyle Field.

All in all, this ended up being a great senior day given the competition. The team was focused, played hard, executed well (only 1 penalty), and we got to see a ton of players get onto the field who have been busting their tails all year during practice. Need to bring that same energy next weekend as we travel to Baton Rouge for a night game. It will be Coach O’s final game, and the Tigers need the win to become bowl eligible. Expect their best shot.

Also, special shoutout to Leon O’Neal. This guy loves A&M with all his heart and he’s so easy to root for. If you have not seen any of his post game press conference, I encourage you to watch it. Incredible stuff.
